I'll adopt this dog in april

her name is nita and i think of her every night and day

I've been reading "Don't shoot the dog" which is a book by an author whose name I forgot. Its a really cool and insightful book. Nitas a dog that will require a lot of training so its neat to get myself prepared.

Maybe I should talk more about her since I'll adopt her and made this page and all. So well Nitas a dog rescued by my best friend's mom while she was still some turdling. And I say that because she did look like turd in the state she was found as. She was left to die and had every disease. After much care and medication and giving my friends mom manges it was then revealed that she was, in fact, a dog. And she looked like a little bear while at it, and thats why shes named nita. Thats the girl bear name from bear brother the movie.

baby nita, looking like a bear who is named nita.

I've met her when she was already a grown puppy. She was a machine of pure chaos and destruction and I instantly fell in love as she ate my hair and chewed my fingers. I told my friend, "thats it, that will be the one.". However I wasn't serious about it (as much as I wanted to) because we lived in shithell cube with already 3 cats (my friend's cats) in it, so no way we'd be able to fit another pet in there. But I kept her in my heart and thoughts and love. And dreams.

Well fast forward something around one year and Nita is grown and still not adopted. Appearently she was returned from adoption from being too much trouble (another signal that she is a fantastic dog on my eyes), maybe that happened twice? Ion remember. So I went to my friends mom house (friend included) for some bbq and nita was still there, so I asked if I could stay some time with her. She was locked in a small corridor because she was tormenting the other dogs, which are old and have no patience for her. I call that the piss corridor, because it was, indeed, full of pee.

No longer baby, still nita, in the piss corridor.

My friends mom does animal rescue. She has probably over 10 dogs and over 40 cats. Maybe more. Shes an old woman without much time to give individual attention to pets. So while this is a bad decision, I can see how her only manangeable solution to Nita was keeping her in a small corridor separate from the other dogs and pets. Needless to say Nita was chewing everything and causing mayhem if put elsewhere, which is kinda obvious because Nita is the textbook definition of a smart and high energy dog. which is why I loved her instantly, and its why I love "trouble" dogs. They're often just smart dogs with a lot of energy who aren't recieving enough attention or training. Without much to do with their energy, they'll seek ways to spend it by running and barking and sniffing everything. As they're smart, they'll do some shit to get your attention. They know that if they pull the clothes from the hanger you'll run towards them screaming. Its bad attention, but sometimes its all they have so they do it so they can have some interaction. Its like when badly treated kids do things they should'nt on purpose. It creates a vicious circle of fucking shit up, getting yelled at, and doing shit again - the yelling ends up being a reinforcer for the fucking shit up behaviour.

Well anyway, when I entered the piss corrdidor nita was instantly (and expectedly) ecstatic. She ran back and forth and peed and ran peeing, increasing the piss status of the piss corridor. She jumped on me a lot. My hands had all sorts of fluids in them - pee, water, drool, you name it. At first I just stood there letting her spend that energy she had accumulated. Once she calmed down a bit and I knew I could attempt some communication with her, I started testing something out: I'd only let her lick my face if she sat down. Why? Because she obviously wanted to cover my face in drool, and I needed her to stop jumping on me. How to communicate that? Simple! I only gave her attention when she stopped running around.

Us in the piss corridor

I'd sit down and let her lick my face if she stood still. I wanted to reinforce her sitting to get attention, but she was too exhilarated for that so I had to start with just staying in a single spot. When she started getting tired of all that running, I'd go down and praise her and play with her while she was sitting, and when she tried to jump on me i'd get up and ignore her. She got the memo very, very fast. After 10-20 mins or so she was sitting in front of me to get my attention, which I tested out by moving to different places - shed then go to my front and sit down, looking at me, waiting to get pet. Thats when I knew she'd indeed be a good dog to train - she got it super fast, from someone she only saw twice before, without any treats even! That also shows how desperate that dog is for attention. Anyway, I had a months long international travel coming, so I thought - if by the time i'm back you're still in the piss corridor, i'll adopt you.

After some changes in my travel plans which shortened my travel time greatly and some talks with my hausemate, I've decided to just call my friend's mom and ask her if she'd be fine with me adopting her in april, to which she responded "you're crazy" and variations of saying i'm out of my mind and telling me about all those horror stories about how nita is big trouble that all made my eyes sparkle with joy because they were all relates of smart behaviour coming from a dog that will definitely be a wonderful travel companion. So yeah, thats my nita pre-story. Soon she will be with me, peeing everywhere and chewing everything. See you soon, Nita!

I have succesfully made myself responsible for this animal's life for the next 10+ years. Wahoo!
